Santa Cruz have an unbelievable R&D team that extends beyond just their pro riders. they have board testers of all ages and genders, weights and surfing abilities. Thier Pro and Amateur surf teams keep pushing the levels of design and are their number one asset for keeping the high performance models polished and in tune with demands of modern surfing.
How does a board make into the Santa Cruz line up? This is where all of the hard work pays off. It all starts with an idea. With the feedback of their team riders and the demand of their customers, new shapes are brought to life through a long process of trial and error, feedback and thorough testing. Their in house R&D lab is busy year round and their riders can always be seen on the latest designs.Once an Idea is conceived, that’s when the work begins. Getting a great design is no easy feat. They simplify the process by working with forward thinking shapers, designers, engineers and riders. The main gears of their design team consist of two time shaper of the year, Eric Arakawa, Fin Engineer Curtis Hesselgrave, veteran
Shaper Doug Haut, COLE surfboards of San Clemente, The North Shore’s Matt Yerxa andInnovative design theorist/ Shaper ex Pro Tour veteran Chris Gallagher. Santa Cruz test their boards in every type of wave and condition imaginable, think and re-think, add a little here, take away a little there until each board gets the “Magic”. All of this is accomplished under their own roof.
